We had so much fun with our rainbow theme! Here is what we did….
We started the day with bubbles, which was perfect because we could see rainbows in them.
Then we had our book and circle time. I had a ton of books available (click here for list). I ended up reading Elmer’s Colors By David McKee. It was a perfect book featuring colors that was short and sweet. I also had the original Elmer book available for the kids to read later.
Next, we sang nursery rhymes and passed out the passports. Then we started our centers..

I had a center with different colored pieces of construction paper with the numbers one through five written on them. I had the corresponding amount of pom-poms available for the kids to place on the correct piece of paper.

I had a ton of fruit loop cereal and a paper with six columns. The kids sorted the six colors into the different lines and glued them down and matted their work with black paper.

I had three water bottles filled with water and food coloring. I had one that was yellow, one blue, and one red. I also had cups for kids to pour the water into and experiment with different color combinations. There was some spilling, but overall this worked out really well!

I made a book about foods of different colors that the kids could read on the computer. See my post here.

We also made musical instruments. We took dried beans and stapled them into a paper plate. Kids drew either on the finished product or before stapling with crayons, markers, or paint. When they had their instruments, they were ready to make some noise!

I printed off upper and lower case letters with rainbows that the kids matched up. I printed them off of here. I laminated them so they could last longer.

For the craft, I cut strips of paper, in five different colors. I also cut out clouds and punched two holes at the top of each cloud. The kids glued the paper to the cloud. They also glued cotton balls to the cloud and tied string through the holes so they could hang their rainbows.
The rainbow and color theme was really fun, bright and cheery. It made me wish for spring!

So many wonderful ideas! Luv it!
Thank you so much!!
Great theme. How nice to start with bubbles! The kids must have enjoyed themselves 🙂
Yeah, they went CRAZY when we started with them! I think that I may have to use them more often.
So far I’ve not met a kid that didn’t like bubbles 🙂
